Agreements

Always make sure that the subject agrees with the verb.
The car is here.
The cars are here.

Some agreements can be trickier
-- anyone, everyone, no-one and each always use is.
-- many, both, a few and several always use are.

When two subjects are joined by and, always use the plural.
Mike and his friend are here.

When the subject is a group of words, the subject must agree with the verb it relates to.
The whole band is here.
The members of the band are here.

Singular words that name groups of people can be either plural or singular.
The team is here.
The team are here.

Generally, the group as a whole is singular, whereas the group as a collection of its members is plural.
